PAX 2 vs PAX 3

Pax 2 Vaporizer vs Pax 3 Vaporizer

Pax Labs Inc, the manufacturer is one of the more well-known vaporizer companies based in San Francisco, California. Their earlier model, PAX 2, was highly acclaimed and quickly became a popular portable vaporizer. But then the company released their third-generation device, the PAX 3.

PAX 3 is the outcome of serious market study. All its earlier versions lacked oil and wax processing compatibility and, in fact, they were simply dry herb vaporizers. As most of the vapers these days like to experiment with multiple forms of raw ingredients, the company decided to come up with an appropriate product.

Both the PAX 2 and the PAX 3 are very popular vapes, and are highly acclaimed in the vape world, but they still have their differences, their pros, and cons. So how exactly do they compare, and which is best for you?

Form Factor & Weight

When it comes to a portable vaporizer, it is incredibly important that the unit’s dimensions and weight reflect its portability and work towards it, instead of making portability harder. So how do the PAX vapes measure up?

While the PAX 2 weighs a little over 90 grams (3.2oz), the PAX 3 is heavier by 3 grams(0.1oz). This is insignificant considering the overall portability. However, the dimensions for both the vaporizers remain the same. For those who are curious to know the exact specifications:

  • Length - 3.1cm (1.21”)
  • Width - 2.0cm (0.8”)
  • Height - 9.8cm (3.87”)

These are arguably the perfect dimensions for a portable vaporizer. But that’s not all. We need to consider the fact that both PAX vaporizers are sleek and rounded in their overall design, and so they are even better than if they were super chiseled and sharp.

Pax 2 and Pax 3 Design

Outer Shell & Finish

PAX 2 boasts a brushed aluminum body and available in four distinct colors; Copper, Gold, Silver and Black. On the other hand, PAX 3 looks stunning in its high gloss dress, and it's super smooth finish gives it a premium appearance, not that it didn’t look good earlier.

However, that extra shine has improved its overall finish considerably. PAX 3 is available in Teal, Silver, Black and Rose Gold.

The incredibly well-shaped body offers intuitive, multi-colored LED lights (the petals) that functions as a user interface, providing information about temperature settings and battery status.

Feature Improvements

One of the outstanding features introduced in PAX 3 is that it processes dry herbs and concentrates/wax. This single addition has changed the leadership game for Pax Labs Inc.

Another feature that makes PAX 3 different from its predecessor is the choice between multiple oven lids and mouthpieces. The PAX 3 is equipped with three oven lids. Two are set aside for dry herbs while the third is reserved for concentrates, called the concentrate oven door.

The default oven lid is meant for a full session, and the oven should be filled to the brim when you use this lid. On the other hand, the half lid pack reduces the amount of herb that can be packed into the chamber.

Nonetheless, the vapor quality and density remain the same no matter which lid you use, and the user experiences that same sensational light feeling PAX vapes are known for.

On the other hand, the concentrate oven lid is equipped with a canister that can be filled with liquid/wax material. Typically, the ingredients in the canister should be set up close to the two holes for optimum performance, and shouldn’t exceed the size of half a pea for a clean vaping session.

Pax 2 Vs Pax 3

Battery

The PAX 2 vape carries a lithium-ion battery, while the PAX 3 now carries a 3500mAh battery. The extra punch in the PAX 3 has drastically improved the heat up time. The PAX 2 reaches 182°C (359.6°F) in 18 seconds, and the PAX 3’s green LED lights up in 15 seconds – an impressive turnaround from its earlier heat-up time. This means a fuller vaping session, without long pauses.

What is more astounding is that the PAX 3 reaches its most popular third level temperature setting in under 30 seconds - which is almost twice as fast as the PAX 2 vape. If this is not enough, the device can be used every 5 seconds after reaching the desired temperature. This short recouping time means more inhales and higher satisfaction during/after sessions.

Internal Accelerator

Although PAX 2's intelligent motion and lip sensing technology was top-notch when it debuted, the PAX 3 offers even higher sensitivity. The PAX 3 will increase the heat to adjust for a new vape session as soon as your lips close-in.

Fun fact: the PAX 3 device is so sensitive to movement that even if you run your fingers along with the mouthpiece, the petals change color instantly, beautifully reflecting its sensitivity towards any abrupt motion.

Haptic Feedback

The tactile feature of PAX 3 is incredible. The device now vibrates as soon as you press the start button located at the top, along with the mouth and even when it is ready to vape. The haptic feedback is a great way to operate the device without having to keep your eye on it the whole time.

Unfortunately, the PAX 2 doesn’t come with haptic feedback, and you do have to keep an eye on the petal display to make sure you catch the heat in-time. However, it’s not a bad thing for many users, and it doesn’t affect the user experience at all. So it’s up to you whether you need haptic feedback or not.

Pax App

Smartphone App

Apart from PAX 3’s loose leaf and concentrate material compatibility, the other biggest feature which has been added is the free PAX Vape App for smartphones.

So what does this app do and why it is called a revolutionary addition? The answer is really simple: it allows users to fine-tune their vaping experience by unlocking the preset heating profiles and allowing users to set their presets to any temperatures they want.

Users can access several intriguing features apart from preset temperature profiles after connecting the device to the smartphone through Bluetooth. The pairing is quick and easy, and once connected, users can play PAX 3’s built-in games, adjust the brightness of the LEDs, lock and unlock the vaporizer, and perform several hardware upgrades.

Vapor Quality: Pax 2 vs Pax 3

First of all, the vapor circulation or the path for both PAX 2 and PAX 3 remains the same. The vapor path is made of stainless steel and separated from the rest of the device components through state-of-the-art insulation.

The air is sucked up from outside the oven, and after cooling through the isolated path, reaches the user through the mouthpiece.

In both the PAX 2 and the PAX 3, cleaning becomes quite a daunting task as the stainless steel vapor tunnel is extremely narrow, and quite honestly, can get a little sticky at times.

However, on the positive side, PAX 3 and PAX 2 come with assorted bristle brushes, and users can easily clean the unit with a little patience.

Price

The basic cost of PAX 3 is about 25% more than the PAX 2. While the PAX 2 comes with a 2 year limited warranty, the PAX 3 boasts an incredible 10-year warranty. Given the additional features of PAX 3, the extra cost is easily justified.

Summary

PAX 3 is one of the best vaporizers available in the market today which is compatible with both loose leaf and concentrate materials, offers intelligent dynamic heating that enhances the vapor flavor and at the same time preserves raw material.

The powerful battery delivers faster heat-up sessions and haptic feedback communicates with the user through vibrations and not through visual connection.

This includes information for device readiness and session prompt. Smartphone compatibility and internal games makes this device a great companion and a healer.
